This idea has been supported for quite some time and has
in fact consisted part of many criminological theories. However, bullying has not been
proven to be a consequence of poor academic performance, even though bullies many

times seem to get poor grades at school.
"Reporting incidents makes situation worse"
This myth is only true if the authorities do not confidently intervene when
information about an incident of violence reaches them. Both victims and bullies
benefit when the teacher cooperates with parents to solve the issue. With the teacher's
help, the victim is able to overcome the feelings of shame, fear, and isolation they

experience. The bully on the other hand learns that actions have consequences and has
an opportunity to develop empathy and compassion towards the victim (Kaminsky,
2020).

● Direct bullying
● Indirect bullying
2.2.1 Direct bullying
Direct/overt cases of bullying are easier to detect and to address and they are
usually the cases most perceived and acknowledged by teachers and/or parents. Out
of physical and verbal bullying, the physical kind is the one most noticed and

discussed, as it involves tangible evidence of explicit violence (Bauman & Rio, 2006).
● Physical violence examples:
