Introduction to Module I of the Local
Community Leaders training session.

The aim of the training modul of the LOCAL COMMUNITY LEADERS is to
promote community leadership leading to social change and community improvement
among adults over 50. Development of leadership and mentoring within the context of
older adults will shed more light on this specific area of research from a theoretical and
practical perspective. "Agents of change" can share their knowledge and experiences
about the way they operate to inspire others to mimic their actions. The proposed

materials could be an inspiration to various groups in which interests are empowering
older adults and leading towards betterment of their communities.
The aim of this session is to to provide participants with information about the
main actors of the community: leaders and followers. The profile of the leader will be
emphasized, the way in which he builds his vision, the culture of a proactive
organization, but also the social responsibility associated with a community leader. In the
same time, we try to provide local community leaders with knowledge and skills about
how to become a community leader who achieves the goals of initiatives they lead and
with knowledge and skills about community development and leadership.
It is explored what the definition of mentoring is, what the differences between
leadership and mentoring are. We tried to explaine the differentiation between the
mentor and mentee, what are the phases of mentoring relationships and what are the

different kind of mentoring models. The benefits of mentoring for mentor and mentee
are discussed. It si also possible to learn about the adult learning principles and the
ethnics for mentoring process.
Finally, the aim of the training module is:
- to understand how is a community defined;
