               Chapter 1 – Introduction

                      One of the biggest challenges facing modern education systems is to implement changes
               that will make schools, and thus countries, increasingly competitive in the international arena.
               Without the participation of teachers, changes in education are impossible.

                      Teacher leadership is a requirement of modern times. The knowledge, skills and
               attitudes of each teacher are of great importance. The quality of their teaching has a direct
               impact on student achievement and thus on the quality of school achievement.

                      In a democratic world, in a world of freedom of speech in which wide access to the

               media is possible we are bombarded with a multitude of contradictory information, ideas, only
               meaningful individuals, leaders are able to persuade people to act constructively. In the
               education of young generations, it is the leadership of teachers that is of great importance.

                      Young people, students gaining knowledge and skills, need role models, authorities,
               teacher leaders. Nowadays, the demands placed on teachers, educators and school leaders are
               growing and changing. To meet the requirements that teachers need to feel like they can be a

               part of change they would like to see. Inspired, motivated teachers can encourage students to
               take the future in their own hands and be the best version of themselves.

                      According to Wikipedia a leader is someone whom people follow and who can guide
               individuals, groups and/or entire organizations. Leader has unique qualities of a person that

               others are willing to trust. People submit to them voluntarily. Leaders enjoy authority and
               power in the selected social group. Leadership is a certain ability, skill or quality that allows

               creating a group of supporters, followers that can be influenced in various ways.

                      The leader can create a vision of development in a certain area and stimulate people to
               act accordingly. They can create the desired situation, and they know how to inspire others to
               work with them to accomplish the desired outcome.


                      The unusual requirements for schools these days demand from teachers’ leadership

               skills. Therefore, the role of the teacher leader is not only leading his colleagues. They also must
               lead their students, and they must play an active role in creating a good school, family and local
               environment. School leadership is the process of discovering, supporting and directing the
               talent and energy of other teachers, students and parents so everyone can achieve common
               educational goals. Teachers who are the leaders can be called a “change agents” or
               “trendsetters”.


                      Researchers suggest that teachers should see themselves as creators, not the subjects of
               change as they play an active, not a passive role in the changing process. In many communities
