around the world, teachers are seen as people who can help make positive changes in people's
lives. The creators of change must be entrepreneurs. They need to focus on developing shared
knowledge in their communities and operate with systematic thinking to transform new
knowledge into teaching strategies and implement them in the school curriculum.

eliminating the risk of disruptions in group work, creating a reality around them, making
desired situations possible. The good leader is: loyal, responsible, consistent, fair and helpful.
They learn from their students and other teachers. It creates a positive image, helps with
overcoming weaknesses and strengthens their talents and virtues. Parents, other teachers and
students can work as a support for teacher leaders. Safe and positive school environment is

Leadership can broadly be classified into two kinds: formal and informal. Formal
leadership is the role of head teacher in most EU countries. The formal roles are depended on a
school and educational system of a certain country. Informal leaders’ role is not imposed by law
and organization structure and yet they still play a very important part of school life. While their
formal position does not give them a requirement to lead, they do it naturally because of their
knowledge and experience. They are respected and popular among the colleagues.
The aim of the project TEACHERS LEADERS is to promote leadership among teachers
and to improve the learning process. Model for teacher leader as a trendsetter of changing or

This handbook is designated for the management of school and other educational
institution, in order to use it as a theoretical approach about what is necessary for a teacher to
become leader and to have a better understanding about his/her duties, roles, and tasks, as well
as for helping him/her to think about changing. The handbook is realized by the six project
teams according with their national and international experience.
