Handout 5.4 Effective listening

Objective: to understand how to listen effectively, how to make the interlocutor
feel heard, how to act in an empathic and sensitive manner.

Duration: 20 minutes

Step by 1. Trainer informs that an effective community leader and a mentor has
steps to know how to listen.
2. Trainer presents the "Sun Chart" . In the centre of it there is a

3. The task of participants is to finish the sentence and the task of the
trainer is to write down their answers on the “sun rays”.

4. At the end of the exercise, the trainer reads out loud the checklist 1
and, together with the training participants, checks whether all the
elements of good communication are mentioned in their “Sun Chart”.
